When faced with worries or fears about life’s challenges, turning to Scripture can give us the courage and strength to face any situation with strength and determination. Going through His Word can be a great way to find reassurance during troubling times.

Prayer & Worship Bring Wisdom

Prayer and worship are powerful tools for connecting with God and receiving His wisdom. Through prayer, we can express our thoughts and feelings to God and ask Him for discernment in decisions and situations.

One of the most effective ways to get wisdom from God is through prayerfully reading His Word. The Bible contains timeless wisdom that can be applied to any situation.

Worship

Worship is another way to connect with God and receive His guidance. In worship, we open our hearts before the Lord in an atmosphere of adoration, surrendering all of ourselves—minds, bodies, spirits—to Him.

As we lift praises to God and meditate on His character and goodness, He often reveals insights into problems or questions to which we have been seeking answers.

Fellowship with the Holy Spirit

Fellowship with the Holy Spirit is vital to gaining wisdom from God. The Father sent the Holy Spirit to guide us in all truth (John 16:13). We must develop a close relationship with Him to understand divine truths more fully. As we seek out opportunities to spend time with the Holy Spirit through prayer, worship, the study of Scripture, obedience to His leading, along with acts of service and fellowship with other believers, He gradually reveals greater depths of understanding about spiritual matters that are beyond human comprehension (1 Corinthians 2:14-15).

that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him

Ephesians 1-17

Listening to the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the divine helper, comforter, and guide Jesus promised to send us. He’s here with all the wisdom we need from God – understanding, counsel, and knowledge are just waiting for us! The Bible says that His presence brings insight into God’s will so nothing can be hidden from our grasp of truth, empowering us to comprehend every heavenly revelation.

Listening to the Holy Spirit is essential for us to receive the wisdom and insight that God has for us. The Bible teaches us that if we submit ourselves completely to His authority, He will give us the knowledge of Him through the power of His Spirit (Ephesians 1:17).

We can receive heavenly wisdom as we remain alert and welcoming to the Spirit’s direction. As we spend quality time in prayer and communion with the Holy Spirit, He will lead us into a complete understanding of divine truths and open up new depths within God’s Word for our comprehension.s

By cultivating a relationship with the Lord through prayer, worship, and fellowship with His Spirit, we can receive wisdom from Him in every situation.

Counsel From Mature Christians

Having mature Christians to turn to when seeking wisdom from God is incredibly important because they can often provide a unique form of insight and understanding that may otherwise be missed. In addition, mature Christians have experienced many different life scenarios, so their perspectives can bring clarity and depth of knowledge to help us better understand the Bible and seek God’s will.

Suppose we are willing to open ourselves up to the wisdom of these godly people. In that case, God, through them, can provide us with insight and direction that will help us discern His will in any situation.

Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint, but blessed is he who keeps the law.

Proverbs 29:18 ESV

Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellers there issafety.

Proverbs 11:14 KJV

This verse is important because it shows us that we should not only rely on our understanding. Instead, we should also seek out guidance and advice from multiple sources. When we do this, we can gain a different perspective that we may not have thought of on our own.

Obedience to God

Living a life of obedience to God is fundamental to gaining wisdom. To be obedient to God means that we willingly and consciously decide to follow the teachings and guidelines He has given us in His Word, the Bible.

When we choose to live a life of surrender, it shows that we value Him as our Lord. It demonstrates our commitment to honoring Him and the words he has commanded. Obedience to Jesus, making him our Lord, is the pathway to abiding Love.

Obedience creates an atmosphere of trust between God and ourselves, characterized by mutual respect and understanding.

When we obey God’s commands with faithfulness and dedication, He knows He can rely on us for whatever task or mission He has set for us. We can then go forward with confidence, knowing that whatever challenges come our way, He is there with us every step and will provide the wisdom we need when we ask.

Jesus Calls Some People His Friends

Jesus said that we are His friends if we do what he commands. So first, we are servants and obey Him; then, through continual obedience, we enter into a friendship with Jesus and a partnership with the Holy Spirit.

You cannot be a friend of God and grow in wisdom if you are continually disobedient. It doesn’t mean you won’t slip up here or there in your struggle against sin. But it means you set your heart on obedience to Him as your primary calling.

If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

– John 15:7

As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my Love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my Love

John 15:9

You are my friends if you do what I command you

John 15:14

He is explicitly speaking to his friends. Those who obey him can remain in his supernatural Love. Yes, I said supernatural. There is a grace for loving Jesus that comes when we follow him. When we disobey him, it is very hard to feel and to be aware of that Love. Sin corrupts our minds and further “un-renews” it.

Obedience leads to sanctification and washing our minds with the “water of His word.”

That he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word

Ephesians 5:26

  • Isaiah 33:6 “and he will be the stability of your times, abundance of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge; the fear of the Lord is Zion’s treasure.”

The Bible is the source of life; it’s filled with instructions on how to get wisdom. Wisdom was the very thing that empowered King Solomon: the wisest and most blessed man that has ever lived (or will live). Wisdom was working in his heart, giving him the desire for more, which is why he asked for it when God appeared to him in a dream granting him his request.

Solomon’s Asks For Wisdom

What is a good Bible verse for wisdom?

The story of Solomon in 1 Kings 3:5-6 is my favorite verse for wisdom. It tells the story of God countering him in a dream and granting him anything he desired. Solomon asked for wisdom, and God was pleased that he asked for it over riches. God promised to make him the wisest man on earth who had lived or ever would. There has never been anyone as wise as Solomon–to this day–aside from Jesus (who happened to be God 😆)

At Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night,and God said, “Ask what I shall give you.” And Solomon said, “You have shown great andsteadfast love to your servant David my father, because he walked before you infaithfulness, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart toward you. And you have keptfor him this great and steadfast love and ihave given him a son to sit on his throne thisday.

1 Kings 3:5-6 ESV

God was pleased with Solomon’s request and gave him wisdom, wealth, honor, and long life.

It pleased the Lord that Solomon had asked this. And God said to him, “Because youhave asked this, and have not asked for yourself long life or riches or the life of yourenemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern what is right, behold, Inow do according to your word. Behold, I give you a wise and discerning mind, so thatnone like you has been before you and none like you shall arise after you

1 Kings 3:10-12 ESV

This is an exciting story of how Solomon’s humility and wisdom pleased God, and he was blessed. It teaches us that when we ask God for understanding, He will grant us, and it’s the most valuable gift we can receive. Likewise, this story reminds us that when we seek God’s wisdom and guidance, He will lead us on the right path and bless us.

Wrapping it up

So, how do you get wisdom from God? Read and study the Bible. Learn who God is and cultivate a relationship with Him through obedience. Spend time in prayer, and ask God to give you wisdom. He will. Finally, remember Solomon’s example and humbly ask for understanding to distinguish right from wrong.
