What is a prophetic feeler?
Prophetic feelers sense the spiritual realm through physical sensations and emotional intuition. Associated with the gift of discerning of spirits, they often pick up on the spiritual & emotional atmosphere around them. Including:
- Holy Spirit
- Angels
- Demonic spirits
- Human emotions
This gift can sometimes be overwhelming–especially before someone connects the dots on how the gift operates. It can feel like a curse (pun intended) before someone learns to identify and bring everything they pick up to Jesus.
Trait #1 Discerning the Holy Spirit
Have you ever encountered someone and sensed that they were a Christian? Not based on their appearance or speech, but through the spiritual presence you felt while interacting with them? Maybe they shared something with you, and you could sense the presence of the Holy Spirit in their words. On the other hand, have you ever met someone whose darkness was palpable, leaving you feeling oppressed by their spiritual state?
As Christians, we have the presence of Jesus through the Holy Spirit, which is a light that shines from within us. Non-believers do not have this light. This light can be perceived through sight, touch, and spiritual discernment.
Similarly, the motives of a person’s heart can often be understood through the gift of discernment (like with Jesus in Mathew 9:4 & Mathew 22:18). Though, we cannot rely on “prophetic insight” or our “feelings” to judge someone–we need to be careful of this.
There is a correlation between empathy and the spiritual gift of discernment, though they are distinct from one another. Being high in emotional empathy can be easy to confuse. It’s important to learn the difference here.
Trait #2 Discerning Angels
For a feeler, discerning angels can look different. I have certain spots on my body that I feel pressure on and a pleasant tingling sensation when an angel is active in a room or meeting.

The most accurate place for me that I call my “angel button” is on my right arm–near my elbow. When I’m in the Glory and angels actively minister to people, I sometimes feel something like a rubber band snap in this spot on my arm. It doesn’t hurt at all–it feels pleasant.
I also feel a hot fire when an angel is active in and on my body. Sometimes I feel it in my chest; sometimes, I feel it in my abdomen; sometimes, I feel it on my entire body. This is often a sign that angels minister in a room in partnership with the Holy Spirit.
I also can discern the Glory, which I refer to as the “glory vibration.” It feels like a vibration and particles of light. Some believers have a deeper manifestation of the Glory than others. When I encounter them, I can sense it upon them.
They may even appear to shimmer as the Glory transfers to me. It is a delightful experience to have friends who walk in the Glory, especially as someone attuned to the prophetic and has the gift of discerning spirits.
Trait #3 Discerning Demonic Spirits
Why does a Prophetic Feeler sense the demonic realm?
We are constantly affected by the spiritual and emotional states of those around us, who can project their inner state and the atmosphere around them onto us. This includes the impact of other people’s spiritual battles, sins, and personal struggles.
You wake up feeling joyful one morning. You make your coffee, go to the gym, and listen to uplifting music on your way to work. Finally, you arrive at work, greet co-workers, and begin your day. However, you suddenly start feeling hopeless- as if life is not worth living.
You start hearing negative thoughts, such as “what’s the point of another day?” “Why am I even alive?” “Life is just too hard.” “The world would be better off without me.” You start to feel sad and depressed, slowing down the pace of your work as thoughts of self-pity consume your mind and emotions. These thoughts and feelings begin to influence the decisions you make and the plans you form.
Suddenly, the Holy Spirit reminds you of something you read on the internet about the discerning of spirits and being a prophetic feeler. You remember how happy you felt moments before starting work. Then you overhear your co-worker in the cubicle next to you, confiding to someone on the phone that he’s going through his second divorce and is not doing well.
This is a fictional example of how a prophetic feeler can sense the emotions and spiritual condition of those around them. In this scenario, the co-worker was under some spiritual attack; he had a spirit of suicide and hopelessness attacking him. Since, in this example, you were working close to him, you were being affected by the spirit he was under. With time and experience, you learn to identify situations like this instantly.
Trait #4 Discerning Human Emotions
The feelings that govern your everyday decisions are not always your own.
For example, you may sense the peacefulness and delight of the Holy Spirit during worship in the mornig but then feel unclean and defiled at a neighboring restaurant at lunch.
Imagine the establishment is also a pub, and you dine there on a Sunday.
In that circumstance, you may be prophetically perceiving the previous sin and debauchery going on there the night before.
Through experience, someone with the gift of discerning of spirits learns to distinguish their own emotions from those they are perceiving.
Then, in partnership with the Holy Spirit, they can identify the source of what they are discerning. This often involves the emotions of others and the spiritual presence they carry, whether it be the Holy Spirit or a demonic spirit.
The Prophetic Feeler’s Discernment Gift Needs To Be Trained
A prophetic feeler must nurture a growing relationship with the Holy Spirit and set aside time for daily prayer, reading scripture, and communing with God. It is essential to stay in the flow of the Spirit and cultivate personal purity and obedience to scripture. Remember, as a prophetic feeler, what you behold, you become. Your spiritual vision must be clear, so it can be filled with light.
The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!
Mathew 6:22 ESV
To function effectively in the gift of discernment, one must have a strong spiritual and emotional foundation. It is essential to be in the right relationship with God and have a healthy personal life, as it can be difficult to discern the source of spiritual impressions otherwise.
For many who possess this gift, it takes time to fully develop and understand it. Therefore, the gift of discernment should be nurtured and developed within a community of like-minded believers. It is not a widely recognized gift, so if you believe you have this gift and want to grow in it, seek out a community of believers who can support and guide you in this. Be a trailblazer in this area!
But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.
Hebrews 5:14 ESV
I hope you understand more about what a prophetic feeler is. It’s someone who has an intuitive connection to what’s around them and can sense the shifts in the spiritual atmosphere around them. As a prophetic feeler, you have the gift of discerning spirits and partnering with the Holy Spirit on what to do and how to intercede.
